Free Cataract Surgery for Eligible Queens and Long Island Residents

Westbury, NY August 21, 2009 — Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island will participate in the Mission Cataract USA program, offering Free outpatient cataract surgery throughout August and September to residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who are not covered by medical insurance and who are unable to pay for the surgery themselves. Dr. Robert Broderick is one of several ophthalmologists from OCLI who will donate his time and talents to Mission Cataract USA. A partner in OCLI, Dr. Broderick will perform free surgery at the Island Eye Surgicenter to give the gift of sight back to those who have lost some or all of their vision because of cataracts. A resident of Plandome, New York, Dr. Broderick is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract, LASIK and comprehensive ophthalmology including glaucoma treatment. Having served his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Broderick then went on to complete a prestigious two-year fellowship in Cataract and Laser Surgery with noted ophthalmologist Dr. Charles Bechert in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Broderick (http://www.ocli.net/physicians/ocli-broderick-old.htm) currently is an Attending Ophthalmologist at St. Francis Hospital and at Island Eye Surgicenter. Dr. Broderick served as Vice-President of The New York State Ophthalmological Society and he has also been a Board member for over ten years. He is the President of the New York KeratoRefractive Society and he lectured on Laser Vision Correction procedures both nationally and internationally.

OCLI has performed charitable surgical procedures for many years with various local service organizations including The Lion’s Eye Bank and The Sons of Italy.
