Free cataract surgery for eligible Queens and Long Island residents.

Westbury, NY (PRWEB) August 24, 2009 — Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI) will participate in the Mission Cataract USA program, offering FREE outpatient cataract surgery throughout August and September to residents of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who are not covered by medical insurance and who are unable to pay for the surgery themselves. Dr. Ronald Caronia is one of several ophthalmologists from OCLI who will donate his time and talents to Mission Cataract USA. A partner in OCLI, Dr. Caronia will perform FREE surgery at the Island Eye Surgicenter to give the gift of sight back to those who have lost some or all of their vision because of cataracts. A resident of Oyster Bay Cove, Dr. Caronia (www.ocli.net/physicians/ocli-caronia-old.htm) is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. After his residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he served as Chief resident, Dr. Caronia completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Caronia is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. He is actively involved in residency training in the field of glaucoma and assisting residents in surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Nassau County Medical Center. He has published numerous articles in the major journals of ophthalmology and has spoken nationally on various topics in the field of glaucoma. He recently wrote a textbook about glaucoma. Dr. Caronia is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Medical Society of the State of New York, New York Glaucoma Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

OCLI has performed charitable surgical procedures for many years with various local service organizations including The Lion’s Eye Bank and The Sons of Italy.
